Kite Festival : A special day for special people

Neptune Foundation arranges ‘Kite festival’ for patients of Thane Mental Hospital

Mumbai, January 15, 2014: It was not just the kites that were flying in open air, but the patients of Thane Mental Hospital too looked liberated with joy as they celebrated the vibrant festival of Makar Sankranti. The hospital ground was abuzz with activity since 11 am and more than 1200 patients were present at the event organized by Neptune Foundation in association with the hospital.

“The prime objective of this event is to boost the confidence of people suffering from mental illnesses by engaging them in social and physical activity. Since our patients reside here without their relatives, we firmly believe that it is our responsibility to look after their vocational training and recreational needs along with treatment and rehabilitation. We are like a big family and to keep it bound together we celebrate various occasions and festivals in harmony,” said Dr. R.Y. Shirsat, Medical Superintendent, Regional, Thane Mental Hospital.

The kite festival was organized for the first time by Neptune Foundation in association with Thane Mental Hospital. Rehabilitation of specially-abled and abandoned people is a crucial part of Neptune Foundation’s corporate social responsibility activities. We are constantly trying to reach out to people who need our assistance and therefore have extended our hand of help to the Thane Mental Hospital. Celebrations like these boost their confidence and bring out their talent which helps them to confidently return to the society post-recovery.
